Alameda County Labor Council Awards Sole Endorsement to
Alysse Castro in Race for Superintendent of Schools
ALAMEDA — Alysse Castro today announced that she won the sole endorsement of the Alameda County Labor Council, the umbrella organization coordinating political, community and educational programs for more than 135 unions and representing 135,000 workers in healthcare, transportation, education, construction, manufacturing, and service.
“Standing with working families throughout the county is critically important to me, so I’m incredibly honored that they stand with me as well,” said Alysse Castro.
The nod from the Alameda Labor Council comes on the heels of endorsements from a number of other major groups who have chosen Alysse over the incumbent, including the California Teachers Association, the Alameda County Teachers Association and every local teachers’ association in the county that has made an endorsement.
“The Alameda Labor Council is endorsing Alysse for County Superintendent because her vision for our schools aligns with the needs and values of working people. Alysse is serious about supporting students and staff and about giving working families a voice,” said Keith Brown, President of the Alameda Labor Council.
Alysse was raised in California public schools and she never left – she has spent her life working as an expert in Alternative Education that breaks the school-to-prison pipeline and changes lives for students, families, and communities. She served 25 years as a successful teacher, principal, and now the Executive Director of SF County Schools. She lives in Alameda with her partner John and dog Sprocket.
