Alysse Castro Wins Sole Endorsement of the California Teachers Association in Race for Alameda County Superintendent of Schools
ALAMEDA — Alysse Castro, the Executive Director of SF County Schools, a former teacher and principal, announced the sole endorsement of the California Teachers Association today — officially shifting their support from the incumbent, whom they endorsed previously.
“It means a great deal to me to have the support of our state’s teachers,” said Castro. “Access to education is a promise of quality of life for every kid and every community. Our teachers work incredibly hard to make good on that promise. I will work to help recruit and retain teachers from our communities for our communities and to improve the size, diversity, and job satisfaction of our teaching force. With CTA by my side, I know we can make this a reality.”
“We are pleased to endorse Alysse Castro in the race,” said Mercedes Faraj, President of the Hayward Education Association. “Now more than ever, we need someone who truly understands the needs of our students and teachers — that’s Alysse. As a former teacher herself, she understands the direct impact teachers can make on our students and communities. We are confident she will be a champion for public education.”
Alysse was raised in California public schools and she never left – she has spent her life working as an expert in Alternative Education that breaks the school-to-prison pipeline and changes lives for students, families, and communities. She served 25 years as a successful teacher, principal, and now the Executive Director of SF County Schools. She lives in Alameda with her partner John and dog Sprocket.
